This blog post was updated November 2019.
The count down has begun. 9 days until Winter Break. I don’t know about you, but my class has gotten a little loud. They want to talk about Christmas gifts, sing Christmas songs, and Santa. I believe in steering into the curve and just rolling with it. However, I do not want to give up and watch Charlie Brown Christmas….yet. I have found several fun ideas for teaching sight words.
How cute it this sleigh filled with sight words? Students place a Santa sight word card on the sleigh, then build it with presents. This activity is part of my ‘Tis the Season Math and Literacy Centers.
I seriously LOVE these holiday writing sheets. There are three different festive styles. Students can practice writing their sight words on them. You can get these FREE HERE, as part of my Christmas Sight Word pack. The sight word sticker book and the sight word ring book both come from my newly updated and editable Sight Word Teach and Assess unit.
Have you seen these FREE Christmas Trees from Making Learning Fun? These were such a hit last year, the students asked me to leave them out in January! Students can build the trees and then write the words. You could even use these recording sheets with the tree ornaments above. Have students take the ornament off the tree and write the word. Then, they can put the ornament back on the tree. Have you ever seen a five year old take an ornament off of a tree? It takes fine motor skills to hang an ornament.
Ok, this isn’t a sight word activity, but it is adorable, right? These cards come from a Christmas Write the Room Activity. There are several different recording sheets that come with it, but I love these half sheets with the Christmas toppers.
These Free sight word Candy Canes will add some adorable flair to your classroom. I hung them up in our classroom window last year, but you could also hand them in the hallway or on a bulletin board. Did I mention, they are free and editable?!? These will make an adorable classroom decoration this December.
I have one last FREE resource for you. Roll and Color by Sight Word. I love roll and colors for the day before going on break. They involve very little prep and they keep students fairly engaged…considering it is right before a holiday.
