Have you read the book Turkey Trouble? It a fun November read aloud for you Kindergarten classroom. It is about a turkey that wants to hide from the farmer so he doesn’t get eaten by the farmer for Thanksgiving dinner. he dresses as different farm animals. In the end, he goes to a vegetable garden and has a n idea. This is my favorite pausing point. I have the kids guess what he is going to dress as.
After we read the book, we sequence it together is the pocket chart. Turkey trouble is the perfect book for retelling. After we do the pocket chart, I have students go back to their seats and sequence it themselves.
Finally, we do a home project where they get to disguise the turkey at home. I have included a letter that goes home to parents. Most of my families will complete it at home, but if they ever don’t, I help them in class. There is also a simple in class option if you just want kids to color their turkey in class.
