We all know it important it is for Kindergarten and 1st Graders to learn how to make 5 and make 10. Today, I am sharing different hands on learning activities to help students master these skills.
I LOVE Shake and Spill Games. It is such an important skill for Kindergarten and First Grade. You just need to add a cup and two sided counters. It makes for a fun partner game.
There is a gameboard for composing and decomposing groups of 5 with a ten frame. I also included a printable for both skills.
There is also a game board for composing and decomposing groups of 10 and a printable. This is a great center that can be used all year long. It would also be good for Morning Work Buckets. You can find this product here.
Another hands on learning idea for decomposing numbers is using Math Crafts. I have love these because they work on fine motor skills, following directions, and decomposing 10.You can find these crafts here.
I also have this FREE activity for practicing making 5 and making ten. It is also a partner game. Students take a card, count how many more to make five or ten, and they cover that number. The first student to cover four squares in a row wins! You can find this FREE game here.
