My kids have had so much fun this week! They have been staying highly engaged with all of our great October Centers and Activities. We read There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat. They loved this sequencing activity from Mrs. Plant’s Press. It’s a great sequencing pack that also includes The Very Busy Spider, and The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything.
Funny story about the pocket chart. One little girl placed her picture in the pocket chart. As she walked away, the entire stand *may* have fallen on another student…or two. Oops. One leg fell off. I think I need to tighten the screws.
Don’t you just LOVE this bat? I found it FREE on TPT. I did blow it up on the printer to 125% because I wanted it bigger. We are learning about ~at words, so i decided to make a little book to go with it. I made a six page book out of black construction paper and how the kids write with white crayon or pencil. I placed my book under the document camera and the kids took turns coming up and writing the sounds. They enjoy the document camera. It is my favorite way to do any type of shared writing. This week I introduced story problems with a Halloween theme. Right now, we are doing them together. Next week, I would like to start putting them in their math journals.
These are a few pics from my Spooktober Math and Literacy pack. My kids love adding the ghosts to the haunted house. We have played it with dice and number cards. The kids just love the ghost erasers from Target. I introduced Candy Addition in small group this week. The kids picked a card with orange and green candy, colored the candy, and wrote the addition sentence. I was pleasantly surprised by how much my kiddos liked this activity.
I can’t believe we only have one more week left in October. I have a few Halloween books I want to teach and I still haven’t taught pumpkins or scarecrows! Oh well. I will just have teach them in November.
