I spent the first three weeks doing procedures, The Kissing Hand, Chicka Chicka Boom, and my favorite, Pete the Cat. Rather than back track, I will just show you what we have been doing this week.
The first picture is from my writing center. I have a set of cards the kids can trace over for handwriting practice. They enjoy this so much more than a traditional handwriting sheet – although I still do that once a week. I also have laminated sheets with the students’ names and picture where they can trace their names and their friends names. Later this week, I hope to introduce making a list. They can make a list of their friends ad make a list of seasonal words I will provide them with.
This is a picture from my word work center. Students find the letters in the beans and then color them in. I have a similar activity where the letters are in a bag with rice but I must have forgotten to take a picture. The beans are lowercase letters and the rice is uppercase letters. The bean box is a class favorite. It might have to disappear for awhile because they keep fighting over it!
This week we introduced the letter Mm. We made this anchor chart with all the things that start with the letter Mm. At one of the center’s the kids cut rectangles and squares to make this mouse. They drew a face and a tail on him, but you can’t see it. I love this alphabet animal book. There is an animal for every letter! (Yes, I had to google what a xysticus was!!!) A co-worker gave this to me. She think is came from Jessica Meacham, but I couldn’t find it. If anyone has a direct link, let me know and I will share it.
That is a snapshot of my literacy this week and hope to show more soon!
