Is it summer break yet? I love my job, but teaching in May is exhausting. Today, I am sharing these FREE Digraph Word Cards plus five ways to use them in your classroom. These “crabby” cards are perfect for end of the year or summer school. Here are five hands on activities you can use in your classroom or homeschool that your kids will love. These games can be used with ANY set of word cards.
1.Hide the turtle – Put the word cards in a pocket chart. Have students read the words. If they read it correctly, they take the card out and check for the turtle. Whoever finds the turtle wins.
2. Swat it! Place all the cards on a table facing up or on a bulletin board. The teacher calls out a word and the students “swat” the correct word the fly swatter.
3. Memory- print two sets of cards. I recommend using cardstock, so they are not see through. Place the cards upside down. Students take turn finding a match.
4. Go Fish – Print two sets of cards. Again, I recommend card stock. Pass out five cards to each student. Place the rest in a pile. Students take turn asking each other if they have ____ word. If the student they pick has it, they hand it over. If they do not have it, they say, “Go Fish” and they draw the next card.
5. Sensory tub- Place the words in a sensory tub. Students take turn getting a card and reading it. For a beach theme, you can do blue shredded paper or brown shredded paper. You can find shells at Dollar Tree.
