I just love spending the first day back to school talking about New Year. We go back a week after school starts, but I think it is a great way to kick off the start of the school year. We will read some our favorite New Years books, such as Squirrel’s New Year. We talk about what a resolution is. We make and anchor chart to talk about what we want to do this year.
I like to do this goal setting page because it gets kids brains thinking on the first day back from break in an fun and exciting way. Plus, they are writing right away. I just love the growth Kindergarteners make in January and like to start the month off right. You can get this FREE New Year craft here.
I LOVE these New Years Math and Literacy Centers for the first week back to school. I designed these to be more of a review, with easier skills, to help students get back into the routine of center rotations. There are letter matching, number sense, sight words, CVC words, and sentence structure activities. They all skills we have worked on before to make the transition easier. You can get these centers here.
